From today, Bugatti is once again producing its unique hyper sports cars in the workshop in Molsheim. Following the break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some employees are now returning to the main factory in Alsace. They will be able to work on the hyper sports cars Chiron1 and Divo2 subject to strict conditions.

“We will do everything necessary to ensure that our employees are able to work safely. Wherever possible, they can still work from home to ensure that the minimum possible number of employees are on site at any one time,” explains Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti. “With the help of the safety measures that we have put in place, we are finally making cars by hand again. That’s an important sign for all of our employees and our customers.”

A Bugatti task force has been working over recent weeks on specific rules of conduct for the restart, taking into consideration the legal requirements of the French government and recommendations from international experts.

Every employee will be given their own protective face mask on arrival at the Molsheim site. This must be worn at all times on the premises and in the work areas, even if a safety distance of 1.5 metres is also maintained and specified rules for washing hands are followed. In addition, employees will be required to clean their tools thoroughly before and after use.

Contactless processing of incoming and outgoing goods wherever possible, as well as reduction of deliveries and maintenance to a minimum, will be as much a part of the new normal in the coming weeks as continued meetings via Skype.

“I am confident that we have implemented the right measures to allow us to resume production in stages, while also providing the maximum possible protection for our employees,” says Stephan Winkelmann. However, each employee should also measure their temperature themselves every morning to ensure that they do not have a fever and that they feel completely healthy and symptom-free, allowing them to work free of risk. Ultimately, it is not just about individual employees, but also about our responsibility to our colleagues and their families as well. At the same time, Stephan Winkelmann thanks the entire Bugatti team and the local emergency services and authorities for their outstanding efforts. “We have all faced unexpected challenges in recent weeks, not only at work, but in our life in general. I want to thank everyone for their exemplary behaviour – we will emerge from this crisis stronger as a team.”
